Shipping Setup
Pitney Bowes (PB) supports shipping hazardous materials domestically through USPS, allowing shippers to stay compliant with USPS rules while generating labels in their normal workflow.
- For USPS–Pitney Bowes, we have added the Hazardous Materials option in the Shipment Details section.
- Once a hazmat item or package is added to the shipment, this field becomes available and a drop-down value is required. The user should select the appropriate hazmat type for their items from the Hazmat profiles available in the list.
- The following hazmat types are available for Pitney Bowes.
- Select the appropriate option from the list and then process the shipment. The label will display “Hazmat” as shown in the sample label below.

Source field mapping for USPS Hazmat type:
- A new field called Hazmat Type has been added under Shipment level > Shipment Options > Hazmat Settings. It offers three options: None, Fixed Value, and Source Fields. This field is shared across all sources.
- If you select Fixed Value, you can choose from the available options in the drop-down list, and a fixed value must be mapped.
- If Source Field is selected, value translation should be performed for the chosen field. If no value translation exists, Aptean Ship will attempt to map based on the imported value. If no value is found, it will be imported as “Select a hazmat type value.”
- When mapping the Hazmat Type field, the Ship Via carrier must be imported as USPS, and the line item’s hazardous option must be set to True. Note that if the value is updated after import, the hazmat type will not be imported again.
